Varying from EASY to MODERATE at a relaxed pace. There are 4 options – please contact leader Suzanne Smith at wilsonsmith@yebo.co.za or 083 303 3417 to discuss possibilities. Please note bookings for accommodation need to be finalized by end of business on Friday 25 April, and payments by Friday 2 May. Deadline for day-hikes booking is Thursday 8 May.

OPTION-1: 4 nights’ accommodation in Hermanus R600 in total. Numbers limited to 14.

OPTION-2: 2 nights’ accommodation in Hermanus R300 in total. Numbers limited subject to the numbers taken in option-1.

OPTION-3: Tuesday 13 May, one-day hike only, no accommodation. No limits in numbers, Fernkloof Nature Reserve.

OPTION-4: Thursday 15 May, one-day hike only, no accommodation. No limits in numbers, Kleinmond fynbos contour.

The hiking schedule below still needs to be finalized, dependent on bookings for the various options. Herewith tentative plans:

Monday 12: EASY. Drive to Hermanus via Stony Point near Betty’s Bay to view penguins and cormorants. Possible afternoon Hermanus Cliff walk, easy distance and gradients.

Tuesday 13: MODERATE. Hike to Galpin Hut in Fernkloof Nature Reserve. Maximum 4 pax can sleep over in the hut (optional) and explore the surroundings, like the Sculpture Gardens. The rest of the party continue from that point via Droekloof’s steep section back to the cars and return to the accommodation. The day-hikers return home.

Wednesday 14: MODERATE: Those who slept at the hut continue from the hut to possibly ascend Aasvoelkop, then descend via Droekloof’s steep section. EASY: Those who descended on Tuesday do an easier loop in Fernkloof Nature Reserve, possibly Kanonkop.

Thursday 15: Mostly EASY in gradients, 10 km in distance. Kleinmond fynbos contour, to walk for kilometers between Botriver Proteas in flower, amongst different fynbos, and return along the coast. Day-hikers return home.

Friday 16: Return home.

The Fernkloof Reserve has pristine fynbos and pleasing views, path gradients are mostly gradual. The Botriver protea, and other fynbos along Kleinmond route is worthwhile and mostly along contours.
