DESCRIPTION:Starting at the Mcsa parking for the Kromhut we will hike  in and camp on the Witteberg Vlakte on Saturday.  On Sunday we return via the cascades (circular route) but we will climb down to some pools and waterfalls near the top of the cascades. In the afternoon we might waste a little time playing on the boulders on our way out. DESCRIPTION:Montegu is known for a variety of  easy/difficult hiking trails as well as a vast number of climbing routes and Mountain biking.  Esme will lead a difficult hike to Bloupunt; Elsie will lead a moderate hike into Keurkloof but there are also a number of well-marked (moderate and easy) trails to choose from.  Rock climbers can be independent or book with a guide if you are a beginner.  We recommend accommodation at  De Bos Backpackers:  https://www.debos.co.za/rock-climbing-montagu/.  Here you can choose from camping\, dorms or your own cottage.  We have reserved a small campsite for MCSA PW but you can also book your own private campsite/dorm or chalet. DESCRIPTION:Buffelshoek Peak ( 2059m ) \n\n\n\n“This is highest peak on UCTMSC’s Zuurberg property\, and a peak well worth bagging. It is also one of the seven peaks that reach over 2000m in the Hex River range\, and is a demanding\, if not technically difficult\, ascent. It can be seen from Ceres\, to the north\, as a giant whale-back on the skyline. It is often visited by the more adventurous student parties\, while many others simply admire it from the comfort of Hoare hut\, on Waaihoek Peak. The peak forms the easternmost corner of the Zuurberg property\, and is thus the most remote of the peaks on the property.” – Andrew Hagen \n\n\n\nWe will be hiking from the Ceres ( Northern side ) of the Hex mountains along a previously established gpx route. DESCRIPTION:MCSA Paarl-Wellington is excited to invite you to Spring Camp 2020 hosted in the Hawequas (meaning “Man in the Mountain”) mountains during the long weekend of 23-27 September.  \n\n\n\nBase camp will be set up at the Hawequas Scouts Adventure Centre. The Paarl/Wellington area is known for its heritage and various cultural walks are planned. Various family-friendly hikes (see below) will start from the Adventure Centre and for the more adventurous we’ll link up with other trails. \n\n\n\nEvery evening we will get together for a bring and braai and share the experiences of the day\, followed by a briefing on the following day’s hikes. On the last evening we will conclude with a spit braai to celebrate the epic adventures of Spring Camp. \n\n\n\nThe Adventure Centre is fully compliant with COVID protocols and participants can choose either camping or dorm accommodation with (spaced) bunks.
