SUMMARY:Assegaaiboskloof - Blushing Bride bioblitz  (MCSA Stellenbosch)
DESCRIPTION:2 or 3 October\, weather dependant.  \n\n\n\nTo finalize on Monday 27 September.Blushing Bride Bioblitz – Under the guidance of fynbos specialist\, Tony Rebelo (SANBI)\, we will be exploring new life after the Feb ’21 fire (fynbos as well as aliens) in Assegaaiboskloof\, the last natural home of the SerruriaFlorida (Blushing Bride)  \n\n\n\nOur goal: to add as many photo observations onto inaturalist to assist in management and preservation of the fynbos: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/saving-the-bride \n\n\n\nWe will drive in from the gate 5km to the ‘drif’ and hike in 7.5 km via thetop plantation road into the back of Assegaaiboskloof\, and out again via the bottom river footpath.  \n\n\n\nThe total distance is 15km\, height gained 300m. We cross the river 3 timeson our way in and again on our way out. The terrain is rough and bottom footpath overgrown\, so proper hiking gear\, boots\, long pants and long sleeved shirts are recommended. There is a wonderful swimming opportunity where we cross the Berg River\, 5km in\, so do pack swimming costumes. Attendees must please download the free inaturalist phone app and start practicing using it to register observations. Free on-line training sessions are currently available via SANBI:https://m.facebook.com/events/365034598595747 \n\n\n\nWe will meet at the gate at the end of the Robertsvlei Road just outsideFranschhoek at 8am.We will need high ground clearance vehicles to travel in to the ‘drif’\, asthe road is in a bad condition.
