DESCRIPTION:he MCSA Stellenbosch section is hosting this year’s Western Cape Joint Meet in Du Toit’s Kloof over the weekend of 1 to 3 November 2024. \n\n\n\nWe have a variety of activities planned in the Du Toit’s Kloof valley over multiple days\, however the majority of the meets are planned for Saturday\, 2 November 2024. \n\n\n\nThe MCSA Du Toit’s Kloof hut will be used as a base camp. SUMMARY:Left Face "Mystery" B\, Table Mountain (2B)
DESCRIPTION:This route starts at the bottom of Platteklip Gorge\, then branches off to the left up the left face of Table Mountain.   It has some nice scrambles (about B grade)\, a steep hidden gully that  unlocks the way through the lower cliffs and a nice interesting step-over finish at the centre of the top of the left face.  There are wonderful views of Cape Town and surrounds virtually all the way.  Some of the scrambles and traverses are exposed.  The route should take about 2 and ½ hours to ascend. DESCRIPTION:We will make an early start from the Kromrivier mcsa parking;  turning  LEFT (North) towards Junction Pool (before the final decent to the hut). At the Witte River we turn RIGHT (EAST) towards Springstygbeugel where we will start climbing towards the Slanghoek  Amphitheatre. From the Amphitheatre we will slowly contour and climb towards Slanghoek Peak (1695m). We will return via a circular route back towards the hut. Its a long (about 30 km\, 8-9 hours) day and quite a bit of climbing(1500m)\, but you will be rewarded with 360 views that seem to go on forever. DESCRIPTION:Montegu is known for a variety of  easy/difficult hiking trails as well as a vast number of climbing routes and Mountain biking.  Esme will lead a difficult hike to Bloupunt; Elsie will lead a moderate hike into Keurkloof but there are also a number of well-marked (moderate and easy) trails to choose from.  Rock climbers can be independent or book with a guide if you are a beginner.  We recommend accommodation at  De Bos Backpackers:  https://www.debos.co.za/rock-climbing-montagu/.  Here you can choose from camping\, dorms or your own cottage.  We have reserved a small campsite for MCSA PW but you can also book your own private campsite/dorm or chalet. DESCRIPTION:Saturday 9 April: Manganese mine\, Du Toit’s Kloof: This route can include children. A 4.5 – 5 hour hike\, elevation gain less than 300m\, it is all off-path so we move relatively carefully. The views of familiar landmarks are from a completely different perspective! DESCRIPTION:New Years peak is a very easy but fun peak to climb which will surprise you with its views even though it is not very high. The hike up and down the peak is off-path.  It is near the Kromrivier hut so once we are down we will continue past the hut to the top pool for a cool-off and early lunch.
